Second prize drawing this Tuesday for students completing Promise Scholarship application and FAFSA
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The second of four prize drawings in the “Cool Cash for College” contest is scheduled for this Tuesday, January 12. High school seniors who complete the Promise Scholarship application and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are automatically entered into the drawing for prizes that include Apple AirPods, wireless printers, mini refrigerators, and gift cards.
“We are so grateful to The Education Alliance for working with us and the West Virginia Department of Education to make this contest possible,”said Sarah Armstrong Tucker, West Virginia’s Higher Education Chancellor. “Making sure our high school seniors stay on track for postsecondary education is critical right now. They are working hard to make the grades in a changing environment, while we all work to keep them healthy. We can’t let them lose sight of the fact that their future is right around the corner.”
The first “Cool Cash for College” contest drawing was held on December 17. After Tuesday, two more drawings among seniors who have completed the Promise application and FAFSA will take place on February 16 and March 2. The Promise Scholarship application is due by March 1, and students have until August 31 to earn qualifying ACT or SAT test scores.
“I am excited to share the success of our first drawing, which awarded prizes to 35 high school seniors just for completing Promise and FAFSA applications,” said Dr. Amelia Courts, President and CEO of The Education Alliance. “We need everyone’s help to encourage all seniors to take this important step before March 1.”
“I was very excited to hear that I won,” said Jocelyn Maxwell, a senior at Fairmont Senior High School in Marion County who was among the first grand prize winners. “I am really looking forward to college. I am so excited to go and meet new people!”
