ACT on-campus testing available for 2020 PROMISE Scholarship applicants at institutions statewide
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – With national testing dates affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission has worked with colleges and universities across the state to make ACT on-campus testing available for this year’s graduating high school seniors who have applied for the PROMISE Scholarship. Applicants can qualify for PROMISE for the fall semester by earning qualifying scores through on-campus testing by the end of September.
Students are encouraged to take the test at the college they plan to attend in the 2020-21 academic year. After testing is complete, the administering college will send scores to the Commission to be evaluated for PROMISE eligibility. Currently, the following institutions are offering ACT on-campus tests:
- Alderson Broaddus University
- Appalachian Bible College
- Bluefield State College
- Blue Ridge Community and Technical College
- Concord University
- Fairmont State University
- Glenville State College

Students are asked to contact the institution directly to register or for information about testing dates and associated fees. Click here for contact information for each campus.
In addition to ACT on-campus testing, PROMISE applicants can take any national ACT or SAT testing that is scheduled between now and the end of October to qualify. For the scholarship program to receive test scores most quickly, students should enter the code 4539 when taking the ACT, and 3456 for the SAT.
All other PROMISE eligibility requirements, including test scores, remain the same:
- ACT: 22 composite score with a minimum of 20 in English, math, science, and reading.
- SAT: 1100 total score with a minimum of 520 in math, and 530 in evidence-based reading and writing.
